What is a poker odds calculator?

A poker odds calculator shows how often each hand wins at showdown. You enter the cards you already know and the tool plays out the rest of the deck, returning win, tie and loss percentages for every player in the hand.

Those percentages are what players mean by equity: your share of the pot if the hand were repeated an unlimited number of times. Equity is the number to compare against the price the pot is offering, which makes the calculator useful for both calling and betting decisions.

How to use the calculator

The calculator covers Texas Holdem: each player has two hole cards.

  1. Give each player their hole cards by clicking the empty card slots.
  2. Add the flop, turn and river to the board as they are dealt. The calculator treats any cards you leave empty as unknown.
  3. Read the result for each player: equity, win percentage and tie percentage.

You can add or remove players at any time, and the numbers update for the exact situation you have described. Leaving the board empty gives you preflop equity; filling it in completely gives you the final result.

Understanding equity, wins and ties

  • Wins: the share of runouts where the player holds the single best hand and takes the whole pot.
  • Ties: the share of runouts where two or more players have hands of identical strength and split the pot.
  • Equity: the total share of the pot the player expects to win, counting a split pot as a partial win.

A player can have the best hand right now and still be behind on equity. That is what happens when you are up against a draw.

How accurate are the numbers?

The results are exact, not simulated. Preflop, the calculator plays out all 1,712,304 possible five-card boards. After the flop, it enumerates the 990 possible turn-and-river combinations. After the turn, it checks all 48 rivers. You get the true probability for the situation you described, not a sample that shifts each time you press Calculate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a poker odds calculator?

A poker odds calculator estimates how often each hand wins at showdown. You enter the hole cards for every player and any known board cards, and the tool evaluates the remaining deck to report win, tie and loss probabilities — also called equity.

How is equity calculated?

The calculator completes the board in every possible way and scores each player's best five-card hand. Win percentage is the share of runouts a player wins outright, tie percentage is the share that splits the pot, and equity is the player's total share of the pot.

Can I calculate odds before the flop?

Yes. Leave the board empty to see preflop equity, then add the flop, turn and river as they are dealt to watch your chances change street by street.

Are the results exact?

Yes. The calculator plays out every possible completion of the board instead of sampling, so the numbers are exact rather than an estimate. Preflop that means all 1,712,304 possible boards are evaluated.

Does the calculator support Omaha?

Not yet. It currently calculates equity for Texas Holdem only.
